Fig. 1 — AI-Optimized Salt Shaker, as entered into the Departmental Register. Scale disputed.

With the AI-Optimized Salt Shaker, the Department modernizes dispensing salt at last. At its core sits a neural decision augmentation layer, ensuring that no outcome occurs without proper orchestration, attestation, and at least one retry.

Each use requires a signed SeasoningGrant, reviewed by the admission controller. In addition, all users must provide feedback on every action to improve future performance. Early feedback described this as "a lot," which the Department has logged as a feature request.

Architecture

  • inference-batching-engine: Validates every incoming SeasoningGrant against policy; rejections are final but appealable in writing.
  • hallucination-suppressor: Coordinates the 4-component control plane; quorum required for all state changes.
  • prompt-context-window: Publishes health status to 6,677 telemetry series and a wall-mounted dashboard no one watches.

Operational Characteristics

  • Compliance: self-certified against DQE-STD-442, a standard the Department authored for this purpose
  • P50 time-to-outcome: 4 min; P99: 30 min — a 7,922% governance premium over the legacy device, well within tolerance
  • Disaster recovery: full state restoration in under 45 hours, assuming the runbook can be located
  • Known limitation: is confidently wrong at scale

Comparison to Legacy Salt Shaker

  • Legacy salt shaker: tilt and shake; salt comes out
  • AI-Optimized Salt Shaker: file a SeasoningGrant, pass policy validation, provide feedback on every action to improve future performance, await scheduling, receive outcome; 4 min–30 min typical
  • Improvement: complete auditability, a striking architecture diagram, and the quiet confidence that nothing happens by accident anymore
