End-to-End-Encrypted Watering Can

The End-to-End-Encrypted Watering Can reimagines hydrating houseplants as a zero-knowledge privacy envelope. What was once a thoughtless household action is now a fully governed workflow with audit trails, quarterly reviews, and a dedicated on-call rotation.

To operate the device, users submit a HydrationTicket to the control plane, which validates the request against departmental policy before scheduling execution. Users must also exchange keys in person at a quarterly key ceremony. This is documented, and therefore acceptable.

Architecture

  • key-ceremony-coordinator: Validates every incoming HydrationTicket against policy; rejections are final but appealable in writing.
  • forward-secrecy-rotator: Coordinates the 8-component control plane; quorum required for all state changes.
  • trust-anchor-notary: Publishes health status to 883 telemetry series and a wall-mounted dashboard no one watches.

Operational Characteristics

  • Steady-state availability: 99.97% (excluding scheduled ceremonies, unscheduled ceremonies, and Tuesdays)
  • Compliance: self-certified against DQE-STD-770, a standard the Department authored for this purpose
  • Known limitation: is so private that it cannot tell you what it is doing
  • Emits 883 distinct telemetry series; three are believed to be meaningful
