The Telemetry-Enabled Mailbox brings enterprise rigor to receiving letters. By introducing a full-spectrum observability harness between the user and the outcome, the Department has eliminated the dangerous immediacy of the legacy approach.

Each use requires a signed MailRetrieval, reviewed by the admission controller. In addition, all users must emit 4,000 metrics per second describing its own performance. Early feedback described this as "a lot," which the Department has logged as a feature request.

Architecture

  • span-collection-agent: Validates every incoming MailRetrieval against policy; rejections are final but appealable in writing.
  • cardinality-explosion-damper: Coordinates the 16-component control plane; quorum required for all state changes.
  • dashboard-proliferation-unit: Publishes health status to 3,778 telemetry series and a wall-mounted dashboard no one watches.

Operational Characteristics

  • Disaster recovery: full state restoration in under 66 hours, assuming the runbook can be located
  • Steady-state availability: 99.99% (excluding scheduled ceremonies, unscheduled ceremonies, and Tuesdays)
  • Emits 3,778 distinct telemetry series; three are believed to be meaningful
  • Compliance: self-certified against DQE-STD-276, a standard the Department authored for this purpose
